Studio Concept Artist

Overview

The Concept Artist is a key member of the creative team of the Central Studio.  We’re looking for a highly talented individual who is excited by the opportunity to create new properties and characters.  We’re looking for someone who is disciplined, professional and comfortable with a constant flow of new work.

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the Heatwave creative team, contributing to the creation of exciting new projects
  • Develop 2D representations that communicate the visual style of game related assets and are ready to be translated into 3D work
  • Take ideas and use your experience, judgment and aesthetic sensibility to produce distinctive visual concepts for top notch games
  • Provide illustrations that can communicate the essence of a project to people both internal and external to that project
  • Help develop the visual style and aesthetic of new projects
  • Provide additional collateral material such as web interest or marketing pieces as needed
  • Communicate and collaborate well with other core studio disciplines
  • Produce finished art of exceptional quality.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Extensive experience using 2D illustration and imaging applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc)
  • Mastery of a variety of types of illustration including:
    • Character portraiture with an emphasis on distinctive facial features and appearance.
    • Figure studies including costume design
    • Landscape with terrain
    • Architecture, both interior and exterior views
    • Props design such as vehicles, weapons, equipment and other objects
  • The ability to work effectively with minimal guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills

Qualification Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree from an accredited school in Fine Art
    • If you cannot provide this, you must be able to clearly explain your formal training
  • At least 3 - 5 years experience in the industry
  • At least 2 - 3 published games credited as an artist
  • A portfolio submissions in digital format (please do not send originals) which includes:
    • Samples of color work as well as line illustration.
    • Samples from a variety of genres such fantasy, science fiction, etc.
    • Samples of technically realistic illustration as well as abstract or highly stylized work.
    • Examples of concepts in various stages of evolution.

A highly qualified applicant will also have:

  • Demonstrable skill with 3D model applications (3D Studio Max, etc)
  • Skill using multi-media authoring applications (Final Cut, Premiere, etc)
  • Experience in more than one media industry
  • Experience with Unreal and related tools
  • The desire to make the world a better place
  • The tendency to make those around them rise to the occasion
  • A sharp sense of priority
  • A clear desire to do top-notch work
  • A very organized personality
  • A willingness to do “what it takes”
  • A sense of humor
  • The ability to give the Executive Producer exactly what he wants, not just what he says he wants
